INTERNET MATHEMATICS DICTIONARIES

The Interactive Mathematics Dictionary web site is published by the Mathematics Education Department of the University of Georgia.  You can Search for a mathematical term and then use the navigation buttons at the left to find a Description, Related Terms, Everyday Examples, Interative Checkpoint, More Information, and a Challenge.

At the web site called MATH WORDS, AND SOME OTHER WORDS, OF INTEREST, you can find the derivation and history of some mathematical terms, and their relation to other English words.  For example, Geo, in Geometry and in Geology refers to the Earth.  Geometry means "to measure the Earth."   Geology is the study of the Earth.

GEOMETRY AT THE GETTY MUSEUM

The Getty Museum is a beautiful museum in the hills of Los Angeles.  I went on a field trip there recently and saw many examples of uses of Geometry.  Click on this: GETTY MUSEUM and link to a Powerpoint presentation that shows you examples of geometry in art work and in the architecture of the museum.  I'm thinking about adding a  quiz you can take after watching the presentation, and then turn in to me for extra credit.  Ask me about this, if you are interested.  (Be sure you have PowerPoint open on your computer, before you click to go to the Getty Powerpoint presentation.)
